Advanced Clinical Training: Connecticut

Giving and Receiving Love: The Secret to Living Wholeheartedly

I am excited to be offering this training in Connecticut. I am going to be in the region with my son, who is attending an integrative wellness centre there for an injury he is struggling with. This means that I have time on my hands, and what better motivation to offer an advanced training that I really enjoy! Giving and Receiving Love offers a great blend of personal experiencing, clinical development, and theoretical extension. I hope that you can join me. If you have any queries, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Warm regards, Brenda

This three day training will explore a primary and fundamental dilemma in human relationships: Why is it so hard to give and receive love? This question becomes even more pertinent when we recognize that connecting is not only vital to the experience of living a wholehearted, joyful life, but is also part of our survival directive.

An essential part of connecting is the ability to both give to and receive from our loved ones. Blocks in either direction may lead to disconnection and isolation. Often the fear and resistance to giving and receiving will show up within the couple dynamics, interrupting the connection and communication between them. This can help explain why couples who seem to be doing well, will often revert to old patterns. Couples create an unconscious collusion around these two polarities of giving and receiving which keep relationships stuck.

When our work with couples creates a safe container, they will be more able to respond rather than react, to let go of rigidity and judgment, and to open to both love’s power and potential. We will explore how to recognise couple’s resistance to giving and to receiving, to work with their defendedness around showing vulnerability and need, and examine the way each person’s image of relationships and attachment wounds determine not only who they choose to form intimate bonds with, but the way we play out the relational dance.

Through the use of video-tapes, demonstrations, practice and lecture we will explore both our own and our clients’ blocks around giving and receiving, and explicit ways to work with our couples to resolve this dilemma and open the possibility to live wholeheartedly and vibrantly.

This training is for those who have attended 8 or more days of Imago Clinical Training, and can be credited toward Advanced Clinician Certification.
